A living classroom where flowers meet science
Shengyin Garden was established in 2000 on nearly 100 mu (about 16.5 acres) of land that Guangdong Shengyin self-financed, built around three pillars — agriculture, the environment and human health. Conceived as an ecological-agriculture R&D base to be shaped over sixty years, it is positioned as a nursery for incubating agricultural-science innovation.
Shengyin first moved onto this planting base in 2000 under a 58-year lease; as of 2018, 42 years remained. Since taking over the land, the company has invested RMB 20 million in site infrastructure, soil remediation, water conservancy, drainage and agricultural facilities.
The garden runs 28 mu of greenhouses — including 5 mu of high-grade glasshouses — with three automated sprinkler systems and one integrated water–fertiliser irrigation system, plus automatic climate control, motorised sprayers and rotary tillers. Meeting rooms, an exhibition hall and laboratories support its science-education programmes. A professional team drawn from education and agronomy delivers regular lectures and hands-on activities, and the garden’s many public-welfare science events have been widely welcomed by local residents.
Folding three decades of Shengyin’s agricultural R&D into one place, the garden was recognised as a Dongguan Municipal Science-Education Base as early as 2008 and today carries provincial and municipal status across science, agricultural and environmental education.
